About Us

Joe Weiss Cohost

Joe Weiss may be new to Lake Forest but is certainly not new to community service, political campaigns or even co-hosting a show like The Lake Forest Podcast. With a history of civic engagement, Joe’s contributions have left a lasting impact on various communities and gives him unique insight into our weekly discussions.

From 1999 to 2003, Joe served as a Village Trustee in Morton Grove, where he spearheaded the redevelopment of key commercial areas. Leading a committee dedicated to this revitalization effort, Joe collaborated closely with residents, local business owners, the Mayor and fellow Trustees, and Village staff. Together, they embarked on a comprehensive twenty-year plan that ultimately resulted in the positive economic transformation of many areas of Waukegan Road, Dempster Street, and the Metra station area. During his term, Joe also developed a profound respect for the dangers that suburban law enforcement officers face daily, an appreciation that endures to this day.

In 1991, at the age of 22, Joe was elected to the Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education. He defeated a long-time incumbent by a margin of just 100 votes. He was re-elected for a second term, receiving the highest number of votes of any candidate in 30 years. During his term, both Niles North and Niles West high schools received the U.S. Department of Education “Excellence in Education Award.” Joe also served on the Board’s contract negotiations team during a two-week strike by teachers and support staff.

Joe’s commitment to public service extends to his work in the administrations of four Illinois Governors, beginning with a college internship in Governor Jim Thompson’s office. He has also worked with two Illinois Comptrollers, including the late great Judy Baar Topinka. Presently, Joe remains a dedicated civil servant, managing a team of 80 employees and collaborating with businesses across the state.
